STARTING A BUSINESS 101

OVERVIEW: In this seminar we discuss the basics in starting a new business.  The first part of the presentation looks at different examples of companies and individuals that have been successful in their startup, and why they have been.  The second section of the presentation involves the decisions needed before you take your first actual step toward starting up the business.  This second part of the seminar deals with why you choose a business,  writing a business plan, expected costs, return on investment, and expectations.  We then discuss some step by step procedures needed to launch the business and typical road blocks that will add cost and delays.  Lastly we explore some basic principles of finance, marketing, accounting, office/site selection and operations that will be needed to get the business started.  This seminar budgets a good amount of time for Q and A from the future business owners.

RECOMMENDATIONS: This seminar works best with smaller groups of 5 to 30 participants.  As the group exceeds 30 participants, there is less interaction of questions and answers.  For groups over 50 this seminar takes on more of a lecture format.  This presentation can be done in 1.5 hours.  Expanding the time allows for more personal direction for participants.  We would recommend never exceeding 3 hours for this presentation.   We recommend doing this presentation at either the start, or end of the business day.  For all of our presentations we recommend a well lit, comfortable, cool room, with minimal distractions.

FEES:  As each of our seminars are customized, the fees may vary based upon the amount of preparation time needed.  A good starting point would be to expect to pay $800 for 10 participants for the 1.5 hour seminar.  As the number of participants goes up, the cost per participant drops. This fee would include the pre-seminar meeting, custom preparation, reasonable travel time, etc.  Extraneous fees, if any, would be discussed at the pre-seminar meeting.  These could include additional travel expenses, facility rental, support materials, etc.
